Hill John Michael "Mike" John Michael "Mike" Hill, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2012 in Toledo, Ohio. Mike was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 23, 1953, the son of Jack and Sally (Liddle) Hill. He was raised in Des Moines and Woodstock, New York returning to graduate from Hoover High School in Des Moines in 1972. Mike served his country enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where he attained the rank of Sergeant. His service included a tour in Taiwan before beginning his thirty year career with The Pepsi-Cola Company. He began this job working on the docks at Pepsi, helping the route drivers load their trucks. Through hard work, desire, devotion and tenacity, he advanced himself within The Pepsi-Cola Company. On September 22, 1979, he was joined in marriage to Pamela Jo Miller and together they lived a life of deep love and devotion. During his career with Pepsi, the family lived in Des Moines and in Warsaw, Poland. After a two year stay in Poland, the family returned to the states and within a few months Mike attained his goal by accepting the position of Vice President/General Manager of the Northwest Ohio Division of Pepsi Cola. He took early retirement in 2006. During those years in Toledo, he was very active in his community. He served as a board member for the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Golf Classic; The Caldwell Community Center and the NW Ohio Food Bank. He served as Tournament Chairman for the annual LPGA event in Toledo in 2003. One of his greatest joys was fund raising for non-profit organizations. Until his illness forced him to retire several months ago, he had been employed as Development Director for the Ronald McDonald House of North West Ohio in Toledo. Mike was preceded in death by his father, John O. (Jack) Hill in 1976. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving, supportive wife of 32 years, Pam, of Toledo; sons, Chris (Ashley) of Grimes, Iowa; John (Erin) of St. Charles, Iowa; and Ryan of Toledo, Ohio, one daughter, Lyndsey (Rob) Mulherin of Swanton, Ohio. He also leaves six dearly loved grandchildren who will miss their "Papa", his mother and step father, Sally and Bob Canfield, of Clive, Iowa; his brother, Ben (Arlys) Hill, of Johnston; three sisters Cathy (Jack) Griffis, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Laura (David) Pontious, of Des Moines, Iowa and Sara (Jeff) Crosby, of Deep River, Iowa and many nieces nephews. There will be two services for Michael. The first will be a Celebration of Life in Toledo, Ohio on Wednesday August 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home. The second Celebration of Life will be in West Des Moines, Iowa on August 19th at 2:00 p.m. at 1004 58th St., West Des Moines, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, it was Mike's wish that memorials be given to "Hospice of NW Ohio 30000 River Rd Perrysburg, OH 43551 or the "The National Institute of Health -National Cancer Institute"-Bethesda, Maryland 20892 for cancer research. Condolences may shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
