Dr. John P. Elder, 78, of Monroe Township passed away Tuesday at home. Born in London, England, he was a resident of Rossmoor, Monroe Township since 1985. John earned his BSc, MSc, and PhD (Electrochem) from Liverpool University and his Post Doctorate from Sweden. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, North American Thermal Analysis Society, International Confederation of Thermal Analysis, and North Jersey Section of American Chemical Society. He is listed in American Men and Women of Science. He retired in 1998 from Merck & Co. John was a Research Fellow for Merck & Co., a Researcher for the Institute for Mining & Mineral University of Kentucky, a Manager for Research Mettler Instrument Corporation, a Senior Scientist for E.S.B., Inc., a Senior Researcher for Texas Instruments, Inc., a Researcher for Allied Chemical, A Researcher for Argon National Labs, and a School Master for Nottingham School for Boys, England. He was active in the Tennis Club and several bridge groups in Rossmoor. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol Bristol Elder; his children, Signe Christine Elder and Nils Philip Elder, both of Pennsylvania; his brother-in-law, Frank E. Bristol; his sister-in-law, Anne V. Bristol; his nephew, Frank G. Bristol; his niece, Tracy Sinkey; and his grand-nephew, Blake E. Bristol. A Memorial Service will be held 8pm Friday at A.S. Cole Funeral Home, 22 North Main Street. Cremation and interment will be at the convenience of the family. A Gathering will be held 6-8pm Friday at the funeral home
