John Patrick Grindel, age 21, of Dalton, passed away Friday at home. Born in Scranton on December 2, 1989, son of Matthew and Marilee Huber Grindel, with whom he resided, John graduated from Abington Heights High School, Class of 2009, before studying Automotive and Diesel at UTI Institute. An automobile enthusiast, he currently worked as a mechanic for Gateway Ford Dealership in Tunkhannock. He adored both working on and detailing classic cars. An avid hunter who had taken trips to New Mexico, Wyoming and South Dakota, he also enjoyed kickboxing and wrestling. A loving and kind-hearted son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend, he will forever be remembered for his big heart and his knack for looking after those around him. He will be dearly missed. He is also survived by his three sisters, Jacqueline Grindel of Carbondale, Heidi Grindel of Philadelphia and Katie Grindel, at home; maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Lou Fox Huber of Clarks Summit; a paternal step-grandfather, John McDonough of Clarks Summit; a maternal aunt, Patricia Noakes and husband Keith of Scranton; paternal uncles, Frank Grindel and wife Candice of Delaware, Shawn McDonough and wife Betty Ann of Scranton, Kevin McDonough and wife Lisa of Moscow, Shamus McDonough and wife Sheila of Carbondale and Eugene McDonough of Scranton; and paternal aunts, Mary Katherine Ives and husband Carl of Dunmore, Rosie Grazidas and husband Peter of Maryland and Mary Theresa McDonough of Scranton. Preceding him in death were paternal grandparents, Charles and Margaret McDonough Grindel. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday at 6:00PM in the Community Bible Church, 327 SR 92 S, Tunkhannock, to be conducted by Rev. David Stuckey, Pastor. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the church on Sunday from 3:00PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to his church (c/o Community Bible Church, 327 SR 92 S, Tunkhannock, 18657). Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge.
