John (Jack) R. Walsh, age 77, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Saturday evening at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Arlene Larson. Wed on March 30, 1957, the couple were married for 54 years. Born in Scranton on February 11, 1934, son of the late Joseph and Agnes Mlincher Walsh, upon graduation from the former Scranton Technical High School, Jack earned a Bachelors Degree in accounting with distinguished Magna Cum Laude honors from the University of Scranton. A Naval Veteran, he received accomodation for successfully running an entire sick bay alone. Prior to his retirement, he worked as an assistant controller for Haddon Craftsman, and served as the company's credit union president, before retiring from Sullivan Company. Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton. His favorite pastime was golfing, having played in Haddon Craftsman mens' league at Scranton Municipal Golf Course. A hard-working and generous man with a positive attitude, he adored his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his three daughters, Pamela Ann Lewis and husband James of Lutz, Florida, Mary Beth Walsh of Jessup, and Erin Marie Kulesa of Scranton; his brother, Joseph Walsh and wife Dorothy of Dover, Delaware; his sister, Eileen Dempsey and husband Jim of Overland Park, Kansas; his three grandchildren, Drew and Garren Lewis and Sean Kulesa; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his son, Sean Patrick Walsh; and his sister, Carol Campbell. His family would like to offer their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and staff of DaVita Dialysis for all of their tremendous care. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday to begin at 8:45AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter's Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Avenue in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Philip J. Altavilla. Interment with full military burial rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 3-6:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to either St. Jude Children's Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105) or to the National Kidney Foundation (Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY, 10016).
