Savannah- John R. Miller, 95, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at his home under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born in Berrysburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Wellington H. and Annie L. Miller, and has lived in Savannah since 1964. After graduation from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Accounting, he served as a Captain in the Army Transportation Corps during World War II. John retired from Flintkote Company in 1984 after 37 years of employment as an Accountant at the company plants in New Orleans and Savannah. During his years in Savannah he was a member and Past-President of the Institute of Management Accountants, LaVida Golf Club, Elks Lodge No. 183, and a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Savannah where he served as President in 1980-1981 and Lt. Governor of the Eighth Division in 1984-1985. John was a member of Solomon's Lodge No 1 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Consistory and the Alee Shriners. As a Shriner he was a past member of the Keystone Kops, Character's Unit and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church where he served as church Treasurer for ten years. John was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers, his first wife, Elizabeth Mount Miller, who was the mother of his children, his second wife of 46 years, Gussie Lee Miller and step-son, Graham G. Phillips. Survivors include his daughter, Susan M. Moreci (Robert) of Metairie, LA; son, Richard W. Miller (Suzanne) of Kenner, LA; nine grandchildren, and twenty two great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Mr. Millers' sitters, JoAnn Jones, Cynthia Pinckney, Jessie Nevels, and Gloria Roberson, the staff of Hospice Savannah, and his many physicians for the excellent care and support they each provided. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Hodgson Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors with Rev. John Haney officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
