John Robert Sebey was born January 23, 1944, in Granite Falls, Minnesota, the son of Prescott and Magdalen (Holland) Sebey. He grew up and received his education in Echo, graduating from Echo High School. In high school he played football, being on the undefeated 9-man team, basketball, baseball and competed in track and field, setting several school records. He then attended Worthington Junior College, where he continued to play football. Following college, John worked for Goodyear in Redwood Falls. On September 2, 1967, he married Marjorie Kay Weidemann in Belview and they made their home in Echo. In retirement, John worked on the grounds crew at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
John enjoyed playing all sports and was a natural athlete, excelling in any sport he participated in. Before retirement, he played softball, racquetball and golf every chance he had, especially his Tuesday league and Saturday morning foursome. After retirement, he relaxed playing a little pickleball and lots of golf along with the honor of joining the "Wednesday Golf Geezers." He was a member of the Eagle Creek Golf Club, a past board member of the Eagle Creek Golf Club, a member of the Elks and Vinje Lutheran Church, serving as a past usher. He enjoyed visiting with friends at Frieda's and Cornerstone Coffee and spending time with his family at their cabin on Nest Lake.
