John S. Elmore, Sr.
Greenville, SC
John Samuel Elmore, Sr., 87, of 114 Abingdon Way, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, December 14, 2011 at his home.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late William H. and Evelyn Sowell Elmore.
He was a member of that Greatest Generation that served in the Pacific during WW II in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Elmore spent his working career in the trucking industry and retired as Sales Manager with Christopher Truck Sales.
A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, he was a former Elder and President of the Elderberries.
He is survived by his loving family, his faithful wife of 65 years, Doris Williams Elmore, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, John S. Elmore, Jr. and wife, Nancy; his daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Roy Elmore; his brother, William H. Elmore; his grandchildren, Brian Harris (Beth), Laura Floyd (Butch), and Amanda Godfrey (Anthony); and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at 1:00pm at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Pamela Patrick Cole and the Reverend Dr. Randolph Kowalski officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the parlor at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Elderberries at First Presbyterian Church.
