John Satterfield, age 84, was born to Maggie Boardley and William Satterfield on December 4, 1927, in Penns Grove New Jersey. He departed this life Friday, March 9, 2012, peacefully at his home with his family by his side. John was the youngest of five children, Helen, Alice, Linwood and William. He attended Howard High School and later joined the U.S. Marines where he served 2 years until he was wounded and later honorably discharged; he received a Purple Heart for his bravery. He worked many years for the Port of Wilmington as a Stevedore and later retired in 1992. He was an active member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church. Additionally, he donated his time and contributed donations to various organizations. His interests included spending time with family, reading, sports (baseball), sitting in the park and enjoying the company of others. John touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark dapper panache all the way to the end. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Satterfield and his son, John Satterfield Jr. John is survived by his daughters, Althea (Billy) Brown of New York, Johnnia Bloodcloud (Roz), with whom he resided, Shyra Dennis and Marion Jackson (Necee); 11 grandchildren, Billeesha, Yvonne, Tonya, Billy Jr., Robert, Michael, Lamar, Shane, Tiffany, Aisha, Keisha; 17 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. We would like to thank each and every one of you for your prayers, thoughts, flowers, and expressions of love, donations, concern and kindness. Of great comfort during our sorrow were the expressions of sympathy conveyed in abundance. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and thank you most sincerely. The Family Funeral service, 10:30 am Friday, March 16, at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, 20 W. Lea Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19802; viewing 8:30-10:15 am. Burial, Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
