John Thomas King, Sr., age 86, of Dunlap, went to be with the Lord eternally, with his family by his side, on January 9, 2013 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, MI.
He was born Sept. 1, 1926 in Dunlap, TN to Jesse S. King and Icie M (Cunningham) King. On March 23, 1945 he married the love of his life and his best friend, who survives him after 67 years of marriage, Margaret Lucille Narramore King. He proudly served in the US Army from January 1946 to January 1947. Following his military service they moved to Detroit, MI where he worked as a police officer in the Detroit Police Department until he retired in 1980. They moved back to Dunlap, TN and got a job with the City of Dunlap where he worked for ten years and served the last five years as a city investigator. In addition to his wife, he is survivied by his sister, Viva Folsom of Garland, TX and a host of brother and sister in-laws; his children, Gail (Robert) Parks, Janet Colleen (Gian) Delpiano, Lisa (Mack) Harris, and John Thomas (Lynne) King Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Allan (Regina) Parks, Chrissie (Jeff) Coop, Kelly (Jerry) Burhams, Alisa (Kurt) Hahn, Kara (Kenneth) Cheatham, Jessica Delpiano (Bassel), Jason (Susie) Gonzalez, Lyndsay Gonzalez, Colt D. Harris, Clay (Jennifer Harris, and Casey Harris; great grandchildren, Bobby, Nathan, Ryan, Desirae, Zachary, Trevor, Tyler, Bradley, Logan, Jared Gian Thomas, Colby Seth, Skylar, John Connor, Caitlin, Jayla, Jayden, and Taylor. He was a wonderful dad to his children and a wonderful grandpa (Paw) to his grandchildren. He was a kind and generous person to his family and friends. He touched the lives of so many people and will be unbearably missed by those who loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CST Monday, January 14, 2013 in the Ewton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brian Kearns officiating. Burial will follow in Hixson Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1 – 8 PM Sunday and 8 – 1 PM Monday.
Following the graveside service, the family will be returning to the Ewton Annex for a meal that has been provided by the Ewtonville Baptist Church.
