BROOKLET – Capt. John Vary Killingsworth, Jr., 59, died Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Candler Hospital. Born November 17, 1951, he was a son of the late John V. Killingsworth, Sr. and Jean Yates Young. The Savannah native was a graduate of Effingham County High School. He served in the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard, and was a Merchant Marine. John was a Coast Guard licensed boat captain working in the Savannah-Hilton Head maritime industry. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor M. Ellis of Brooklet; his children, Danielle K. Mongin and her husband, David, of Atlanta, Samuel Jonathon Killingsworth and his wife, Rachel, of Pooler, and Caitlin Vary Killingsworth of Ellabell; his granddaughters, Isabella, Vivianna, and Adelaide Mongin of Atlanta; two sisters, Sandra K. Jackson of Savannah, and Susan K. McNeil and her husband, Harvey, of Atlanta; his brother, Steve Young of Savannah; his step-father, William H. Young of Pineora; and his aunt, Carolyn Yates Burnett of Savannah. He was preceded in death by his brother Brian Yates Killingsworth Young. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral services will be private. The family suggests any remembrances be made to a favorite charity.
