John Vespa, 90, of Springfield, died at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at St. John's Hospice. John was born October 18, 1921 in Springfield, the son of Nicola and Teresa Frasco Vespa. John earned his Bachelor's Degree from Bradley University and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in the South Pacific, Philippines, New Guinea, Australia, Dutch East Indies and Japan in Hokkaido. He worked as an accountant for Fiat-Allis for 38 years until his retirement in 1985. John was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roger and Joseph Vespa; and sister, Marie Vespa. He is survived by his siblings, Edith McCarty, Robert F. (wife, Irma) Vespa, Vi Baur, and Angela (husband, William) Elder, all of Springfield, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Ceremony: Private family ceremony was held at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
