John William (Bill) Bolyn Jr. passed away peacefully at home in Santee, CA on December 13, 2011 with his loving wife of 45 years, Kay Whitten Bolyn, and his devoted daughters by his side.
He was born in Florence, South Carolina to John W. and LeClair Cantey Bolyn. John was an athlete for Hemingway High School, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated in 1962 and joined the U.S. Navy the same year. John served one tour of duty in Vietnam, and went on to have a distinguished 28 year career, retiring in 1990 as a Senior Chief. During the 28 years John was fortunate to live and work in Quanset Pt. Rhode Island, NATTC Memphis, TN, San Clemente Island, NAS Miramar, PMRF Barking Sands Kauai, HI, MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, NAS North Island. John served aboard the USS Lake Champlain and USS Enterprise. After retiring, John continued in government service, working for 21 years as an IT Tech at NAS North Island (NATEC). He was 7 months shy of serving the U.S. Military 50 years.
John was an avid golfer, he enjoyed spending time at golf courses throughout San Diego County. He shared his love of golf with his grandchildren, hoping they would develop the same passion for the game.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Wendi Lane (Michael) of Ewa Beach, HI and Amy Mleczko (John) of San Diego, CA, John is survived by his grandchildren Kelli and Jason Mleczko and Amanda & Tanner Lane, and his brother Calvin Bolyn (Glenda) of Summerville, SC. He was preceeded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Spisak.
