John W. Manly
Greenville, SC

Dr. John William Manly, 87, of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning October 22, 2011

Born in Williamston, SC, he was a son of the late John Milton and Jeanette Bell Manly.

Dr. Manly was a veteran of the U.S, Navy where he served during WW II. He was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 3.

In 1956 he received a BS degree from Bob Jones University and in 1965 a M.Ed from Clemson University. He was awarded an honorary LLD from Bob Jones University in 1970.

Early in his career he taught in the Anderson and Greenville County School Systems. He later joined Greenville Technical College where he taught for many years and served as the first Dean of the Allied Health Sciences Division. He retired in 1986 after 16 years as the Executive Vice President of Tri-County Technical College. Following his retirement he taught for an additional 14 years in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Greenville Tech.

He was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a member of the Auditorium Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Frances Lansdell Manly; his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Jack P. and Annette Manly of Newberry; and his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Fred Smith of Easley; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 24th at 2:30pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Melvin Aiken and the Reverend Dr. Jack P. Manly officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery, West.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until service time Monday at the church.
