John William Hyman, Sr., 67, passed away January 5, 2012, in Chesapeake, VA. Born in South Norfolk, he was the son of the late Francis M. and Elizabeth D. Hyman. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 31 years of service. He graduated from Deep Creek High School and was a lifelong resident of Deep Creek. He was a member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge #178 and the Deep Creek Ruritan Club. He was a loving and wonderful husband and a devoted father. He is survived by his wife, Grace Hardee Hyman; two daughters, Grace E. Hyman and Michelle Ange; a son, John W. Hyman, Jr., and wife, Michelle; two sisters, Linda Cahoon and Joyce Batten, all of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, Frankie Hyman of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren, Amanda, David Keith, and Joey Sammon, Kyle Ange, Brad and Colby Mutter, John W. Hyman, III, and Brayden Martin. A funeral service with Masonic rites will be held Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, with Rev. Norman March officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
