Jon A. Fasana February 13, 1946 - January 20, 2012 Jon Fasana of Waco passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 after a brief illness. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Kelly and Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial, with Waco Fire Department escorts, will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Jon was born February 13, 1946 in Glendale, California to John W. and Judy Fasana. He worked as a firefighter and paramedic for the city of Los Angeles; and served as a lieutenant in the Volunteer Police Reserve in South Pasadena. In July of 1981, he became the first Chief Paramedic of the Los Angeles Fire Department. As Chief Paramedic he served as technical advisor on the TV show, "Emergency", and later oversaw all EMS planning for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. From 1988 to 1992 Jon served as Chief of Emergency Medical Services for the city of Boston, MA. From 1992 to 1996 he was the Associate Regional Director of the Sierra- Sacramento Valley EMS Agency Service. From 1996 – 2003 he was the Fire Chief for the city of Waco, during which time he oversaw the construction of two new fire stations and the planning of three additional fire stations. He also established an EMS First Responder Program with cardiac defibrillators. After retirement, Jon continued to work as a management consultant in the areas of public fire protection, EMS and disaster preparedness. He was preceded in death by his "four legged" pals, Peppy and Barney Fasana. He is survived by his wife, Louise Fasana of Waco; his mother, Judy Bai Fasana of Laguna Niguel, CA; sister, Janice F. Kennedy and husband, Paul, of Carlsbad, CA; and nephews, Jeffrey and Sean Kennedy. Pallbearers are the Waco Fire Department. The family thanks the doctors and staff of Providence Health Center, especially the ICU, who worked so hard to help the Chief during his illness. Memorials may be made to Providence Foundation or the Animal Birth Control Clinic of Waco.
