Dr. Jose D. Sanchez, 92, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Saturday October 30, 2010 at La Porte Hospital. He was born September 13, 1918 in Morovis, Puerto Rico, the son of Jose Sanchez and Julia Santiago Flores. Dr. Sanchez was the first career trained anesthesiologist of LaPorte Hospital, he was a past president of the LaPorte County Medical Society and a member of the Medical Association, he practiced medicine for 50 years. Dr. Sanchez was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lions Club in Puerto Rico and LaPorte Rotary. A veteran of the US Army during WWII. In March 1989, he became a licensed realtor, assisting his wife. Dr. Sanchez enjoyed golfing, dancing, music and painting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 26, 1954, in Mexico City, he married Olga Sanchez who survives. He is also survived by his two sons - Jose (Julie) Sanchez of MD, Mariano Rodriquez of Tucson, AZ; two daughters - Rose (Bruce) Fisher of La Porte, IN, Iris (Mark) Muccigrosso of La Porte, IN; ten grandchildren - Olga M. Quigley, Anthony Lemus, Michelle Muccigrosso, Stephanie Muccigrosso, Sabrina Sanchez, Erica Rodriguez, Alex Rodriguez, Anthony Fisher, Andrew Fisher, Ryan Fisher; five great grandchildren - Bobby Quigle, Sophia Quigle, Audrey Quigle, Olivia Lemus, Miley Lemus. Dr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers & two sisters. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Haverstock Funeral Home with Father Ian Williams, officiating. Burial of ashes will be held at the Pine Lake Cemetery.
