Joseph V. Costello Sr died peacefully on Wednesday April 6, 2011 in Oceanside, California after a brief illness. He was 89.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on November 4, 1921, the oldest child of Frank J. Costello and Elizabeth Tague Costello.

A member of the Greatest Generation, he served proudly in the Marines during World War II and Korea.

He earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College in New York City in 1943 before joining the service. Upon leaving the service he obtained his Masters degree in Civil Engineering from Columbia University in 1947. He was a licensed Professional Engineer. Over a 30 plus year career in engineering, he worked in New York City and Boston for M. W. Kellogg and Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation.

On February 12, 1954 he married Yvonne Marie Louise Trum in Floral Park, New York. They settled in Queens, New York then Williston Park, Long Island where they raised 6 children.

Joe moved to Oceanside, California in 1991 where he enjoyed golf, woodworking and traveling to visit with his 11 grandchildren. He also loved watching the New York Yankees and the NY Giants football.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years Yvonne, his third son Brian and two brothers John and Frank Costello.

To cherish his memory, he leaves behind 5 children, Joseph (Susan), Paul (Betty), Claudia, Kathy and Timothy (Tina) and 11 grandchildren, Katie, Bobby, Michael, Kristen, Tina, Pam, Jeff, Sarah, Jack, Gregg and Jim and numerous friends and relatives.

A Mass will be held 10am April 13, 2011 at Corpus Christi Parish Catholic Church, 100 James Street, South River, NJ. Interment will be at Holy Cross Burial Park immediately following the Mass. (Section C, Row 64, and Grave 94).
