Joseph A. Schiavone, 83, of Port St. Lucie, Florida died, December 11, 2011, at Treasure Coast Hospice, Fort Pierce.
Born in Brooklyn, he had been a resident of the Port St. Lucie for over 20 years coming from Brooklyn, NY.
Before retiring he was a collector for the N.Y.C Department of Sanitation for over 30 years. He had also worked for U.S. Postal Service for 10 years at the Stuart, Florida Post Office and lastly worked at the Darwin Square Publix, Port St. Lucie for over 10 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus.
Survivors include a daughter Lisa McCormick of Port St. Lucie; a sister, Lucy Napoli of Brooklyn; brothers, Rocco Schiavone and Benito Schiavone, both of Staten Island, New York and granddaughter's Jennifer and Jessica.
SERVICES: Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 PM on December 15, 2011 at the Forest Hills Funeral Home Palm City Chapel. There will be a funeral service at 10:00 AM on December 16, 2011 in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
