Dr. Joseph Edward Hartnett Cdr. USN Ret was born in St. Louis Missouri in 1919. He embraced his God while holding his wife’s hand, succumbing to pneumonia. He attended St. Louis University and served in the US Army and US Navy. Cdr. Hartnett served the military in the dental field, continuing his private practice in San Diego for many years. Joe was an Irishman who loved music, tennis and greyhounds. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart Dorene, his sons Rodger and Tom, her children and their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services are at Miramar National Cemetery on May 26, 2011 at 11 AM, 5795 Nobel Dr. San Diego, CA 92122 and are being arranged by El Camino Memorial Pacific Beach Chapel, San Diego, CA., 858-488-5553. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations in Joe’s name to the La Jolla YMCA, 8355 Cliffridge Ave, La Jolla, CA, 92037 or the Greyhound Adoption Center, PO Box 2433, La Mesa, CA 91943.
