Joseph F. Mason, age 94 of Kennett Square, PA, died Sunday September 16, 2012 at the Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester, PA. He was the husband of Margaret Conard Mason, with whom he shared 75 years of marriage.
Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Dominic and Teresa (DeGhetto) Mason. He and his wife lived in the house he built in Kennett square for over 60 years.
Joseph owned and operated the family mushroom business for many years retiring in 1980. In more recent years he helped his family with the family gas station and laundromat and then "retired" again in his early 90's. Also during his retired years, he and his wife made many different crafts including birdhouses which are enjoyed to this day by family and many in the community.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church.
Most of all, Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was dedicated to his family and helped them through the years.
Survivors include in addition to his wife, one son, Joseph R. Mason and his wife Nancy of Kennett Square; two daughters, Barbara M. Frezzo and her husband Emidio Jr. and Margaret M. Scarlett all of Kennett Square; four grandchildren, Dr. Richard Mason, Jeffrey Mason, Clifford Scarlett Jr. and Shannon Scarlett Helmecki; one step-grandson, Scott DiStefano and eleven great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine Leo and Mary Mason and a son-in-law Clifford B. Scarlett.
You are invited to visit with Joseph's family from 8-9:30AM Thursday September 20, 2012 at the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home Inc. (610-444-4116) 250 W. State St. Kennett Square, PA 19348. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church 212 Meredith St. Kennett Square. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.
