Mr. Joseph F. Morrissey, 81 of Rockland died Monday, December 21, 2009 at Briarwood Healthcare in Needham. The son of the late James and Helen (O'Brien) Morrissey, he was born in Arlington on August 9, 1928 and was raised and educated in South Boston. Mr. Morrissey served in the Army during the Korean War and was later employed as a Mail Handler at the East Milton Post Office for many years. He was an avid sports fan. He was the husband of the late Rosalyn (Garvey) Morrissey to whom he was married to for over 50 years. He is survived by 5 children, Joan Morrissey and her significant other, Gwyn Tracy of ME, Rita Foley and her husband Jim of Foxboro, Rosemary Damigella and her husband Anthony of Braintree, Joseph Morrissey and his wife Diane of Rockland and Robert Morrissey and his partner Lisa Simmons of Abington, he was the brother of Kay Lee of South Boston and the late John and Jim Morrissey. He is survived by 6 grandchildren, Alison, Amy and Ann Foley and Erin, Meaghan and Sean Morrissey, he was the brother in law of Chuck and Pat Garvey of Woodbridge VA and Julia Morrissey of Somerville. He is also survived by Tami Wright of East Bridgewater and many friends at Briarwood Healthcare in Needham. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home 45 East Water St in ROCKLAND on Sunday from 2-6 PM. Funeral Mass on Monday at 9 AM in St. Bridget's Church, 455 Plymouth St in Abington. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery in Rockland. Donations in Joseph's memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, c/o Mo's Gang, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown MA 02472.
