Joseph H. McCarthy, Retired East Orange Deputy Fire Chief, 72, of Bloomfield, born November 25, 1939 and raised in East Orange, son of deceased East Orange Fire Department Deputy Chief Joseph M. McCarthy and Harriet May (nee Ellenberger), passed away in the presence of loved ones on June 2, 2012. Devoted husband, married 53 years to Sara Lynn (nee Wilson), and survived by sons Joseph M. and wife Laura, John and wife Deborah, James, and daughter Lisa Glavan and husband Marty. Proud grandfather to Patty Anne, Erin, Joseph, Daniel, and "pop pop" to youngest Zoe. Great grandfather to David James and Aubrey Lynn white. Survived by sister Nancy Nedoma, predeceased by sisters Mildred and Jane. Member of the East Orange Fire Department (FMBA Local 23) for 42 years. Joseph began as a fireman on 7/9/1962 and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief. He retired 12/1/2004. Eagle Scout and Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 15 of the Boy Scouts of America. Proud former employee of the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad, as well as noted railroad Photographer. Author of "Trackside With The McCarthy's".
