HURDLE, Joseph Hamilton, age 91, of Sandston, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Rush Hurdle; parents, Benjamin Theodore Hurdle and Dorothy Mae Fagan; sister, Doris H. Parker and brother B. T. (Teddy) Hurdle, Jr. Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Jo H. Brown and husband, B.C. of Richmond, VA and St Augustine Beach, FL., Kathleen H. Tucker and husband Robert, of Highland Springs, VA; three grandchildren , Kristin Gantt and husband Roger, Win Mitchell and wife Danielle, and Jolie Hall and husband Steve, all of Richmond, VA., five great-grandchildren, Bryson, Chandler and Riley Blake, Madelyn Mitchell and Camden Hall; one sister, Vera H. Orrock of Fredericksburg, VA.; in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews. Joe worked for American Tobacco Company as a machinist. He was a member of Sandston Baptist Church. In addition to being a devoted and doting husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed reading, "tinkering", traveling, gambling and driving his convertibles. While serving in the army during WWII, he drove the ALCAN highway, providing supplies to U.S. troops in Alaska and the Aleutians. The family will receive family and friends, Sunday, June 24 from 2-4PM and 6-8 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231 where funeral services will be held Monday, June 25 at 2:00PM with interment immediately following at Westhampton Memorial Park.
