NILES – Joseph Havasi, 91, 1500 McKinley Avenue died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 9:30 pm at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home follow an extended illness.

He was born in Budapest, Hungary on April 11, 1920 the son of Joseph and Zsuzsana (Parai) Havasi and journeyed with his family to the United States and Tampa, Florida as Hungarian refugees in 1957. With the help of Mary and Sam LaPolla, he came to Niles and became a Tool and Die Maker and Machinist at Wean Manufacturing. He moved to Tampa, Florida in 1965 and worked for 20 years at Westinghouse where he retired from in 1985. He returned to Niles in 2007.

He was a charter member of the Hungarian Christian Church in Safety Harbor, Florida and a member of the Hungarian Liberty Club in Plant City, Florida. He enjoyed Hungarian dancing, boating, fishing, swimming and especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Joseph is survived by two sons, Joe (Mary Beth) Havasi of Niles, Desi (Shari) Havasi of Sedona, AZ; two grandchildren, Joseph Raymond (Lynn) Havasi of Overland Park, KS, Ryan (Shannon) Havasi of Deerfield Beach, FL; three great grandchildren, Joseph, Megan and Aaron; sister, Zsuzsana Baka of Budapest, Hungary.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Margaret (Turcsoky) Havasi whom he married on June 6, 1942 and who passed away on September 1, 2001; son Andrew Havasi who died in 1947 and a brother Miklos "Nicholas" Havasi.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday January 13. 2012 at 11:00A at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home in Clearwater, Florida. Entombment will follow at the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. There are no calling hours or services in Niles.
