Joseph J. Serra, 48, of Wintersville, OH formerly of Weirton, WV died Saturday November 19, 2011, at the Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH. Born on December 9, 1962, in Weirton, WV, Joe was the son of Louis F. Serra of Weirton and the late Dorisene Glover Serra Lyons. Joe graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in 1981 and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Joe formerly taught school in Maryland and Saint Paul's Grade School in Weirton. Joe was presently employed as the Activity Director of the Weirton Geriatric Center. Over the years Joe loved to coach and was a coach of basketball and the Weirton Junior Dons Football Team. He is survived by his son, Zachary Louis Serra and Zachary's mother, Gay Propst of Hilton Head, SC; his father, Louis F. (Theresa) Serra; his sisters, Lucinda (Joseph) Alongi and Rhonda (Geno) Quattrochi, all of Weirton; his companion, Amy Baker of Wintersville, OH; niece and nephews. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. A memorial service will be held Monday evening at 7:45 in the funeral home lead by Pastor M.R. Hawley of Mercy Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday at Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Larry Dorsch will preside. Entombment will follow in the Serra Family Mausoleum at Saint Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul Grade School 140 Walnut Street Weirton, WV 26062 or to the Mercy Baptist Church, 3474 Pennsylvania Avenue, Weirton, WV 26062.
