Joseph J. Valenti died on Friday March 23, 2012 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 65 years old. Mr. Valenti was born and raised in Perth Amboy and has resided in Monroe Twp. since 1969. He began his career in 1968 as a math and science teacher at Colonia High School. One year later, he continued his career in South Brunswick High School where he was a department chairperson and supervisor before becoming an assistant principal. After a 38-year career in education, he retired in 2006. He was a third degree Knight of Columbus in Spotswood Council #4907. He was a member of the NJ Principals and Supervisors Association and was a Past-President and current Vice President of the Monroe Twp. Public Library Board of Trustees, where he was a member since the fall of 1988. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and New York Ranger fan, and had New York Ranger season tickets for 35 years. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph F. and Mary (Zayka) Valenti, and his brother, Vincent Valenti. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy (Sesterak) Valenti of Monroe Twp., his daughter, Jennifer A. Ley of Little Falls, his son, Joseph J. Valenti, Jr. of Alexandria, VA, two sisters, Patricia Poulson and her husband Rodney of Monroe Twp., and Maryann Kenny and her husband Kevin of Woodbridge, two grandsons, Christopher, and Alexander, and many other extended family members. Funeral services will begin at 8:45am on Wednesday March 28, 2012 from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral liturgy will be 9:30am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp., followed by Entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, S. Brunswick. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the funeral home.
