Joseph L. Lowry, 71, of 2900 Plymouth-LaPorte Trail, Walkerton, Indiana, 46574, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 7:19 p.m., at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, in Plymouth, Indiana. Joseph was born on November 30, 1938, in Plymouth, to Dewey and Mary (Morris) Lowry. Joe graduated from Tyner High School, Tyner, Indiana, in the Class of 1956 and from Indiana Central College, Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1960. On June 25, 1961, Joe and Jean Brant were married in South Bend, Indiana. They had been married for 49 years. Joe was a teacher at the South Bend Community School Corporation for 38 years. He also taught at several other schools, with North Liberty Elementary being one. He had been working as an electrician since 1975. Joe was a member of the Tyner United Methodist Church, where he served as a Lay Leader. He was involved with the Walkerton Community Pantry, served as an elected member of the Walkerton School Board, (serving two terms and was planning to run for a third term), and was a member of the Historical Society, in Walkerton. Joe is survived by his wife, Jean Lowry; their son Brian (Rose) Lowry of Walkerton; three grandchildren, Joanna (Justin) Ritter of Walkerton, Henry Lowry and Jason Lowry both in college; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Ritter of Walkerton. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Devon Lowry, James Lowry, and Walter Lowry; and his sisters, June Kulzar and Juanita Howell.
