Joseph M. Bartle, 89, of South Windsor, beloved husband of 67 years of Kathryn (Cecere) Bartle, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2011 with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 18, 1922 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Orin C. and Mary (Siefert) Bartle. Joe grew up in Indiana where he attended Butler University and Arsenal Technical H.S., then joined the US Navy, serving during WWII on the submarine USS Tigrone as Quartermaster, 1st Class. After the war he and Kathryn settled in Connecticut, eventually in South Windsor where he had lived for over 55 years. Joe was a supervisor at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks before leaving to run his own business. He was an ardent fan of the New York Yankees, an avid supporter of UConn womens basketball and of course a devoted follower of the Butler Bulldogs. He was a communicant at St. Francis of Assisi Church where he was a member of the Mens Club. Joe was supportive of South Windsor youth sports, especially baseball and football. Joe was a proud father and truly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Joseph M. Bartle, II and wife Minh; James O. Bartle and wife Kimberly; Orin J. Bartle and wife Grace; Mary A. King and husband Brian; Karen J. Festa; Susan M. Okoro and husband Sunday; Linda F. Dykas and husband Peter; and Kathryn E. DiPrato and husband Alan; a son-in-law, Walter Soder, as well as 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Besides his parents Joe was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne K. Soder; brothers, Marvin, Melvin, and Orin and son-in-law, Brian Festa. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the Vernon Visiting Nurses.
