Joy Weller passed away on September 8, 2011 in Port St. Lucie, Florida at the age of 85. She is survived by her sons Glenn Weller and wife Rita, of Wellington, Florida and David Weller and his wife Marie of Palm City, Florida, and 10 grandchildren: Keith (Richele), Karl (Samantha), Susie, Ryan (Shayna), Ali, Drew (Rachel), Daniele, Stephen, Danielle and Nicole.
Joy Weller was born May 7, 1926 to John Bradley White and Julia Ogburn White in Tyler, Texas and lived the early part of her life in Lindale and Austin, Texas. She lived a long, fulfilling and happy life.
After high school she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a bachelor's degree. She started her career teaching school, and in the early years met another University of Texas student, Steve Weller. They were married on December 23, 1951.
Her life was never quiet or dull. After marrying Steve they had two children, Glenn and David. Then, education, life and Steve's career had them moving all over the United States from Texas to Illinois to Colorado to Maryland to Minnesota to Florida and around the world to Belgium to Thailand and to England. Some of her favorite times were those that she spent living in England near a well-loved host of British relatives. It was an exciting and fulfilling time.
In in 1979 Joy and Steve retired to Hide-Away-Lake in Lindale, Texas. While in Lindale she was actively involved in their community and served in numerous neighborhood and area boards and clubs, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was active in the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was elected to the local PEO chapter and had an active social life. She moved to the Treasure Coast to be closer to her family in 2005.
Joy will always have a place in our hearts as a loving mother and one of life's true characters. She was social, intelligent, stylish, opinionated and wholly southern. We have thousands of fond memories of her and her immediate and extended family and her many friends around the world loved her very much. We are happy to know that she has been reunited with her husband, Steve.
Throughout her remarkable life she touched and influenced many people. She was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, an indulgent grandmother and constant companion to a host of relatives and friends.
We will miss her greatly.
No flowers please, donations in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lindale, Texas or the charity of your choice.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, September 10 at Noon at the Forest Hills, Young and Prill Chapel located at 6801 SE Federal Highway, Stuart, Florida.
