Joyce Ann McMillan Schurr passed away at Hospice Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the age of 87. She was born the daughter of Chester and Mildred (Rowland) McMillan on December 7, 1923 in Denver, CO. Joyce married Orville Thomas Schurr in 1946 in Jamestown, KS. Joyce and Orville moved to Albuquerque in 1952. Joyce received her BA in Education from UNM and taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools for over 25 years. Joyce enjoyed the cabin she and Orville built near Questa, NM, birding, gardening, writing and reading. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years by one week. Joyce is survived by her children, Terry Schurr and wife, Janey, of Cortez, CO, Linda Barker and husband, Sidney of Cedar Crest, NM, and Tammy Schurr and partner, Catherine Massey of Las Cruces, NM; four grandchildren, Clint Schurr and wife, Kris of Pleasant View, CO, Terra Graf of Cortez, CO, Heath Barker of Las Cruces, NM and Micah Barker and wife, Nicole of Cedar Crest, NM; and six great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a service honoring both Joyce and Orville will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at French – Lomas Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in honor of Joyce and Orville to Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 25424, Albuquerque 87125.
