Mrs. Joyce C. Wittchen, 70, of La Porte, Indiana, died Tuesday September 7, 2010 at La Porte Hospital. She was born April 12, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Charles S. Major and Gladys (Cochran) Major. Joyce loved her work as a Toll Both Operator for Indiana Toll Road. She was a member of Women of the Moose #935 of Michigan City, Ladies Auxilliary V.F.W. Post #1130 and The Red Hat Society. Joyce loved playing cards and bingo. She is survived by her son, Orville (Jill) Wittchen of Plainfield, IL; two grandchildren, Brandon Wittchen, and Bryan Wittchen; one brother, Stephen (Phyllis) Major of Waleska, GA; one nephew, Monte Major; and a niece, Lindsay Perry. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Debra Chamberlain. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday September 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jo Ellyn Chadwick officiating. Cremation will follow with burial of ashes at Pine Lake Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the La Porte Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
