In case anyone is reading this, I wanted to say THANK YOU! to everyone who has posted a message/memory. It means a lot to us that all of you remember our "Papi" fondly and are brave and open to share.

As you can all imagine, these can be difficult times but they are made easier by the wonderful and great memories we have of our dad.

We recently had a snowy day in Portland, and though there was barely and inch of snow the schools were closed. We decided to go to the cemetary and visit my dad. He always thought the snow was beautiful but complained bitterly about the cold. We made a snow man in his honor.

I always thought going to cemeteries was fairly unpleasant but now I find that I get great joy and peace visiting our loved one.

Once again, thanks to everyone for their thoughts and good wishes.

I am very sad that my grand father died without my ever knowing him. I will miss him greatly in the coming years and am sure that he was a prominent figure in my babyhood. I will never remember clear memories-only the foggiest ones, slightly blurred around the edges. Looking back upon my photo album, he is a bird, fluttering here and there photo to photo-hugging me, holding me, making me laugh. These help me stir faint memories of him,

I'm sure that he will be waiting for his entire family up there when we go there. i will always love him, and hope that he still loves me too.

I remember my Tio Juan as being a kind and patient man. He was always so easy going. I remember him taking Luisa and me along with his six kids to Disneyland. He took care of all eight of us. Now that I think back, how did we ever fit in his car. We did fit and we were happy. I remember one time at Disneyland we saw Minnie Mouse and my Tio turns to Juan Carlos who was about

My sincere condolences go out to my aunt and cousins. May your memories of my uncle give you peace and comfort at this time. I came across the following passage and would like to share it with you:

"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best".


My Tio Juan will be greatly missed.

On behalf of the Melero family in Fresno, Ca we extend our condolences to the Carrera Family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family.

I had such a wonderful childhood growing up with the Carrera's! They always made me feel like part of the family. Juan looked after me like one his children; dropping me off at school along with Mirella and JC everyday. For that, and for so much more, I am forever grateful. He was the sweetest, most humble and easy-going person...and especially a loving father. He and Taide created what was in my eyes a very close knit family; deserving of

Juan looked after me like one his children; dropping me off at school along with Mirella and JC everyday. For that, and for so much more, I am forever grateful. He was the sweetest, most humble and easy-going person...and especially a loving father. He and Taide created what was in my eyes a very close knit family; deserving of admiration and as an example for the family I'm raising. In the last several years that he was still in CA, we'd see him from time to time on those infamous long strolls he'd take around the city, sometimes managing to wave a hello at each other. We are very saddened by the news of his passing, and can only accept that he is at peace now. On behalf of the Acosta family, we extend our most heartfelt condolences to the Carrera family. May you find the love and unity in each other as you honor his life. Gob Bless!

I remember our first meeting when he came up to see Cleo very soon after she was born. Rocio, Cleo, Juan, and myself packed this big fried chicken picnic

I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man who adored his family and who was adored BY his family. I did not know him well, in fact, had only been around him 2 or 3 times when he would come to Oregon to visit his kids here. I remember our first meeting when he came up to see Cleo very soon after she was born. Rocio, Cleo, Juan, and myself packed this big fried chicken picnic and went down to the Willamette River and had a wonderful afternoon. I watched the baby and he and Rocio took off on this long walk on the shore line. I could see how close he was to his family. There isn't anything he wouldn't have done for them.

My sympathy goes out to the whole family. May your father "rest in peace" while he now sits with his Creator.

I was very lucky to take many peaceful walks with my Dad once I moved back to Inglewood with Cleo. He was always willing to drive us to Playa del Rey for our morning stroll, and was vigilant about making sure Cleo didn't shove any sand into her chubby cheeks no matter how hard she tried! Carol is right, there are too many memories to write them all down, but my last great memory and one that I will cherish

Carol is right, there are too many memories to write them all down, but my last great memory and one that I will cherish forever was of a walk he and I took when he visited me here in Maine. It was a quiet forested country road and Dad didn't once mention the cold New England autumn temperature. Instead he spoke of his life in Mexico as a young child and his early years in California. It was a long walk and I knew he was getting tired so I asked if he wanted to go back but he said no and we kept on walking. I am so happy to have had that time alone with him and am so very sad that I will not be there to honor his life with my mother and siblings.
