Juanita S. Cooper, 91, of Naples, FL passed away on November 5, 2013 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Bloomfield Hills, MI. She was born on March 8, 1922 to parents Emmit V. and Mary Abby Slater. On June 13, 1942 she married Gordon S. Cooper. Juanita and Gordon founded Gordon Cooper Motor Sales, Inc. in 1950, where she was the bookkeeper, Office Manager, and Secretary Treasurer for over 30 years. She was an honor accountant recognized by General Motors for 30 consecutive years.
In 1979, they moved to Naples, Florida as a winter home becoming their permanent residence in 1995 from their previous home in Port Clinton, OH, and Juanita became a member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church, where she served as a volunteer. She also volunteered at North Naples Hospital, and was a former member of Catawba Island Club, Port Clinton Yacht Club, Palm River Country Club, and many other clubs and organizations in Ohio. As well as her love of volunteer work, Juanita also enjoyed travel, golf, bridge, and mostly spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Gordon S. Cooper, as well as brothers, Millard Slater and Vernon Slater, and parents, Emmit and Mary A. Slater.
She will be dearly missed by daughters, Linda (Dallas) Pennington of Aiken, South Carolina; Barbara Moore of Irvine, California; son, John (Cheryl) Cooper of Birmingham, Michigan; grandchildren, Amy (Stewart) Chisam of Cumming, Georgia; Carrie Cox of Cincinnati, Ohio; Meghan Moore of Irvine, California; Gordon Cooper of Ferndale, Michigan; Michael Cooper of Birmingham, Michigan; and great grandchildren, Ben and Meredith Chisam, Brady Cox; as well as brothers, Avasteine Slater of Orlando, Florida; and Dewitt Slater of Hampton, Florida.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10AM at the Fuller Funeral Home Chapel on Pine Ridge Road in Naples, followed by the funeral service at 11AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at Naples Memorial Gardens on Immokalee Road in Naples, immediately following the funeral service.
