Judy Penland

Judy Kay (Harris) Penland, aka, Wynona Pearl Hoover, 53 of Katy passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at her home following a long illness.

She was born in Gassaway on October 25, 1958, a daughter of the late James T. Harris and Bessie (Dobbins) Harris.

Judy was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She had also worked as a care giver before becoming ill. She was very proud of her American Indian Heritage. She enjoyed Native American art, music and making jewelry.

Judy is survived by her loving husband Roger Penland; four devoted sons, Jonathan Edward Penland and his wife Amber of North Carolina, Andrew Terence Penland of Columbus, Roger Franklin Penland, Jr. of Katy and Mark Joseph Penland of Katy; two very special grandchildren, Ethan Matthew Penland and Nathan Isaac Penland of North Carolina.

Also surviving are her natural mother and step father, Jessie and Roosevelt Brock of Illinois; her sister, Nancy Hoover of Illinois; her very good friend, Linda Capper of Ohio special cousins, Russell Jarvis, Carla Ferrell, Steve Watts and a brother-in-law, Robert Watkins and his wife Barbara, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Ann Penland.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont on Sunday from 1-8 pm and on Monday from 9:30-10:30 am.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Travel Fund at Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, WVU Health Sciences, Morgantown, WV 26505 or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of West Virginia, River Walk Corporate Centre Suite 4412, 333 East Carson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
