Mrs. Robb will be greatly missed by many others and by our family. She always had a smile on her face, gave us warm hugs and was so sweet and kind. More memories of Grandma...
I spent most of my childhood with my cousins in my grandparent's backyard pool. After a long hard day of swimming and playing in the pool, we would come inside and Grandma would make us grilled cheese sandwiches. I have never tasted a grilled cheese sandwich as good as hers. I'm not sure how she did it. She had a way of making everything feel comfortable and homey. I always felt the most comfortable as a kid

More memories of Grandma...
I spent most of my childhood with my cousins in my grandparent's backyard pool. After a long hard day of swimming and playing in the pool, we would come inside and Grandma would make us grilled cheese sandwiches. I have never tasted a grilled cheese sandwich as good as hers. I'm not sure how she did it. She had a way of making everything feel comfortable and homey. I always felt the most comfortable as a kid at her house. She always had the softest sheets to sleep on too. I can only hope that someday I can make my grandkids feel as comfortable and as special as she did.

Grandma always liked to look nice. Her favorite presents were new outfits. After we would open our Christmas presents, she would put on her new outfits and model them for us. I always liked that.

I remember doing puzzles with Grandma. She would always get a new one for Christmas. Grandpa would set up a puzzle table in the living room, complete with lights so we could really see the colors on each puzzle piece. Grandma would sit at that table for hours working on the puzzle. But she wasn't sitting there by herself! Someone would always sit and work on it with her. As we walked by, we would stop and find a piece or two to put in place.

Jenny was one of the good women of the world. I have shared many of her life's celebrations and tragedies. Through all of these blessings and trials, Jenny remained true to herself and her family like a ship on calm or turbulent seas. I will always remember her life example to others and to myself. Although I can never measure up, I hope that I will come close. I will remember her in my heart.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Mrs. Robb's passing. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but know just how special a person she was because of the wonderful son, Roger, she raised. Reading Roger's tribute to his Mom and reflections of the many positive traits and characteristics she possessed, tells me she will live on in the hearts of many. I see many of those same qualities in Roger. Thank God for the life Junella (Jenny) Joyce Robb lived and the lives she touched. May she rest in paradise.

I remember lots of good food, fun card games and just a lot of laughter. I still remember how quiet and calm her house always was. I come from just the opposite, so I remember really loving it over there because it was so comforting.
When I was in college I took 5 years of sign language and this was solely because I had fallen in love with the language because of the Robb family. I was truly passionate about it and it was all due to them. I saw how that language could bring a family together and it really made a big impact on me at a young age.
I wasn't able to attend the funeral because I live in Scottsdale, but I did read what Roger said at the funeral and it made me cry. What he said about his mom and Brenda learning how to "sing" songs in sign, really struck a chord with me. When we were in middle school Jacque and I would travel with Brenda for her work and I remember on many, many road trips Brenda would keep herself awake and alert by signing all the songs on the radio. I just thought that was the coolest thing in the world. Now I know why she knew how to do that!
Jenny was such an amazing grandmother, mother, wife and friend. In all the years I knew her, I never saw her get mad at anyone. She had the kindest heart. And she made life simple, which in this day and age is difficult to do.
My favorite memory of all times happened just a few months ago.
Her and Don and her sister and her husband were in Phoenix and Brenda hosted dinner so that we could all get together. We had a great dinner and then afterwards, we all sat on the couch and talked for hours. This may sound silly to some but it was the stories that her and Don told about their early marriage years and raising their children, that made the night so special. I remember I texted Jacque that night after I had left Brenda's. I told her "Tonight was such a special night. Your family is truly amazing".
That was the last time I saw Jenny. How lucky am I to have shared that evening with her. Somehow I knew it was a night to remember.
Thank you Jenny for being such an inspiration to me - even more so now as I am older and have a family of my own.
You will live on forever in my memories. You will be missed every day.

I wanted to share with you this evening the kind of person my mom is. What she did has shaped me forever. What I am going to share with you tonight is something I have always used to open my presentation at work whenever I do presentations.

I wanted to post this since some of you did not have a chance to be at my mom's memorial service Sunday night (11/13/11). This is what I signed.

I wanted to share with you this evening the kind of person my mom is. What she did has shaped me forever. What I am going to share with you tonight is something I have always used to open my presentation at work whenever I do presentations.

My parents had three wonderful daughters but no son so they decided to adopt me…of all babies that were available, they got me. Never in their wildest dreams would they adopt a boy who would be different. They did not find that out until about 1 ½ years later. This is the story.

My parents both worked so my mom took me to the church nursery…the church that was on Bell Avenue, and leave me to be looked after while they worked to make money. Hey…I wasn’t cheap! One day, the daycare staff noticed something different about me. You know, all babies are sleeping in their cribs and whenever a baby starts crying, you know what happens….the rest of the babies would wake up and start crying because their nap was interrupted. Well, I slept through all the loud wailings. That was what the staff noticed. She would notice that it would be an ongoing pattern so one day when my mom came to pick me up after work; she told my mom she suspected I may be deaf. Naturally, my mom would vehemently deny this and tell her, she was imaging things. The staff suggested having my hearing checked by an audiologist. Mom wouldn’t budge. However, she did start to doubt this and decided to take me to an audiologist. The audiologist tested my hearing while my mom held me. After the testing, the audiologist told my mom that I was indeed deaf. My mom got upset and told him that I wasn’t deaf. Something must have happened to the equipment and insisted that I be tested again. The audiologist told her that nothing was wrong with the equipment. My mom made him do it again. Finally the audiologist obliged and tested me again. After the test, the result was the same. I was indeed deaf. My mom got more upset and told him that there was no way I could be deaf because whenever she yells at me, I would turn around and start crying. The audiologist was mystified. He could not figure out but he asked my mom how she would yell. She told him she’d show him. She put me on the floor and stood behind me at a considerable distance. She yelled at me. Sure enough I turned around and looked at her. She acted so proud that she was able to prove to the audiologist that I could hear. She said, “See!” The audiologist smiled and said, “Actually that proves he’s deaf.” Mom was stumped at the answer. One thing mom did not realize she was doing when she was yelling was that she was….stomping her foot, claping her hands and yelling at the same time. Mind you, the floors back in the 1960’s tend to be wooden and when she stomped her foot, the vibration would vibrate and I would feel that. That was my cue that something was happening behind me.
Naturally my mom felt helpless because she did not know anything about deafness except the negative perspective of it. Luckily, the audiologist knew of someone who would be able to help my mom through this new experience. The audiologist introduced my mom to Elaine Wirth who was my first teacher. She was a teacher at the deaf preschool. My mom had so many questions like, “would I be normal?” “Would I need lots of help like blind children or handicapped children?” Elaine told her that she was the wrong person to answer the questions. She introduced my mom to a deaf lady. This deaf lady was and is a professor at UNM in the Linguistics department. She was able to show my mom that deaf people can be successful and normal. This forever changed my mom and from this point on, she made sure she learned sign language so she could communicate with me. She made sure I got a good education. She made sure I was given the opportunity to be involved with church, and things like that. She would find interpreters to interpret for me during Sunday school and during the morning services. She felt that sign language was a very important tool of communication. She had considered oralism, total communication, or just sign language. She decided to use the total communication method so I would learn sign language and to speak. Unfortunately my speaking skills bombed. However with the upbringing I had, that eventually chose my career for me. I am currently an Advocate Specialist at a deaf agency in Atlanta. I have been in that field for over 15 years. My job is to empower deaf and hard of hearing clients to be more self reliant and know their rights such as having an interpreter for their doctor appointments, court hearings, and things like that. My mom wanted to be sure I was not left out of family gatherings and she would try to interpret for me. It wasn’t easy for her to do that plus cooking big feasts, and eating! But nonetheless she did it. I wanted to tell you that at the very end of her life when she was in a coma, she still made sure I was given the opportunity to communicate with the doctor. Prior to arriving at the hospital, I asked Brenda to get an interpreter for me so I could be able to discuss with the doctor and with my family about my mom’s condition and the decisions we would have to make. The hospital had Video Remote Interpreting equipment handy. The VRI is a TV monitor that has an interpreter on the screen who would interpret what is being said. However when it was time for me to speak with the doctor, I was surprised that the doctor knew sign language. It was a sign that my mom was looking out for me even in the condition she was in. I’ll always be grateful to my mom for all she had done for me.

In closing, my mom has always thought sign language was a beautiful language and when this deaf lady decided to start a sign choir, my mom was one of the first people to volunteer to be part of the choir. This gave her the opportunity to learn more sign language and express the language through music. My sister, Brenda joined her and was the youngest person in the choir. They would sing songs in sign language at different churches and travel to different places. My mom loved to sing her glory to God in sign language. There were times when in church, she wanted to sing in sign language loudly during the songs portion of the services but, you know, me, being a teenager, I would tell her not to embarrass me. She would meekly look at me and smile and say “I’ll try not to”. There are times when I wish I hadn’t done this because this was her way of expressing herself. She loved watching this deaf lady sign the songs. Well, she told me that at her memorial services, she wanted me to make sure that this special person would sign one of my mom’s favorite songs. It is my honor to honor my mom by having Dr. Phyllis Wilcox sign “Ten Thousand Angels”

One thing that I appreciated from Jennie is that she told me many times, "I will back you up, I am with you all the way". That was regarding with the years of struggles with Mom. and her illness. Again, we talked hours
and hours about Mom and all her physical and health problems.

I imagine that she had said "Precious Lord, hold my hand----Precious Lord Take Me Home".

I will cherish every meeting we had together over a perm or a haircut. Toward the end of her life here on this earth her hair began to turn curly on one side. We so hoped it would travel all the way around her head so she wouldn't have to get permanents any more. She was a blessing and always had a smile to share. What a joy to know we will see her again in our Heavenly home.

What a blessing to know my friend and sister in the Lord is with her precious redeemer. I will miss her sweet smile, encouraging words and her love for life. . She was a great lady on this Earth and will be a great lady in God's kingdom. What a gift to know we will see her again on the other side. Know that we will keep all the family in our prayers. We are sorry for your loss. Love to all
