Justin A. "Pete" Gumma passed away unexpectedly at his home in Colorado Springs on Sunday morning, October 27, 2013. Pete was 61 years old. Pete was born on April 15, 1952, in Pueblo. He was the youngest son of Harold and Ursula Gumma. He graduated from Central High School in Pueblo and received his undergraduate degree at CU Boulder. Pete completed the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy law enforcement training course and was granted peace officer standards and training certification in the early 1970s. He served as an investigator for the Boulder County District Attorney's office for many years and was also a lay municipal court judge in Erie and Lyons. In the 1980s and early 1990s, Pete had his own private investigations firm in Boulder. He was also a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1993 and most recently worked as a security officer for G4S at the CTU campus in Colorado Springs. Pete was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and devoted much of his time to mentoring individuals struggling with alcoholism. He provided guidance and support as a sponsor, served on Nightwatch, and volunteered at the Colorado Springs Area Service Office as well. He achieved 20 years of sobriety earlier this year. Pete always lent a helping hand to anyone in need. His generous and forgiving nature will be deeply missed. Pete is survived by his wife, Lisa Stahlschmidt, and furkids, Willy, Lily, Macy, and Pinelope, of Colorado Springs; his brother, Bill Gumma, and sister-in-law, Jessica Keneally Gumma, of Santa Barbara; his children, Kyleigh Gumma and Justin K.
