Ms. Justina Cicerano

We knew her as Justina, Auntie or Auntie Beach. She was a beloved sister to my mom, Theresa, and a lifelong companion and helpmate to her brother, Deno. She was an aunt to almost everyone else, even if you were not related to her by birth or marriage. She was like a 2nd mother to me, Bob, Diane, Laurie & Richard. And she was always there to lend a hand with our own children when asked. She rarely ever said

She was an aunt to almost everyone else, even if you were not related to her by birth or marriage. She was like a 2nd mother to me, Bob, Diane, Laurie & Richard. And she was always there to lend a hand with our own children when asked. She rarely ever said no to any of us.

Auntie was always happiest at Plum Island, and I think that for most of us, our fondest memories of her will be there at the island. That was her turf. Many of you remember the fried dough on Sunday mornings and probably everyone here can remember the Sunday dinners when she would cook for a small army of family & friends. There was always room at the table for 1 or 2 more who would get lost on a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon and wouldn’t you know it, just happen to take a wrong turn and end up at the island.

Auntie always saw the best in all of us. I don’t know if she was unable to see our flaws, or just refused to acknowledge them. She lived her life much the same way. Whatever life threw at her, she didn’t fight it, she just shrugged and accepted it. But this was part of what made Auntie, Auntie.

She was a special lady, whether you called her Justina, Auntie or Auntie Beach, and I know that there is a special place in each of our hearts for her. In fact, Diane and Laurie’s kids even had a special name for her. She wasn’t just an aunt, she was a special aunt with a special name. She was Auntie Beach. I would like to quote from the prayer “Coming Home”: I am in Heaven, dear ones;…All the pain and grief is over….I am now at peace forever.” Rest in piece, Auntie. You deserve it.

I was lucky enough to live two houses down from "Auntie" when I was little. Some of the fondest memories of my early childhood are because of Auntie and her lovely family. My deepest condolences to them. Auntie will always be in my heart.

My aunt is one of the kindest most even tempered people I have ever known. She rarely ever had an unkind word to say about anyone. Her smile, and ability to take some gentle teasing from me, was, in our own way our ability to maintain that special connection we shared. Her patience and ability to relate to kids made her one of the best baby sitters one could ever find! And over the years how she enjoyed taking so many to Disney On Ice or other events at the Garden! For her not having a license never really held her back. As long as the T went there she hoped on the bus and went, making sure just about every week she went into Boston or the Burlington Mall.

Unfortunately after her stroke she lost a great deal of this zest. But, she still maintained her sense of humor. In fact I could still get away with the teasing, or joking, which I knew she still enjoyed. This is really how I want to and I hope you will remember her. For her smile, and huge hear! Auntie - you'll be missed!
