Karl A. Helbig Jr., 79 of Vermilion, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007 in Community Health Partners, Lorain.

He was born April 11, 1928 in Pittsburg, PA and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 48 years moving from Lorain.

He served in the United States Marine Corp.

He worked as an electrician for US Steel Lorain Works.

He was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church. He had been an active member of the Lorain YMCA and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his 3 sons: James Lynn Helbig of Vermilion, Jeffrey Robert Helbig of Columbus, and Karl Bryan Helbig of Nokomis, FL, 6 grandchildren, and sister Marie Zettl of Pittsburgh, PA.

Preceded in death were his wife, Beverly Helbig (nee Vickers) in 1999, parents, Karl Sr. and Mary Helbig , daughter; Barbara Ann in 1967; and two brothers, Edward and William Helbig.

Friends may call Friday May 11, 2007 from 6-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.

Friends may also call Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at the Riddle Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
