Kathleen Westbrook, 67, Moffit, ND, joined our Lord God on April 16, 2012, at St. Alexius Hospital, after a short battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, April 20, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with Fr. Tom Richter officiating. Private family burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Family will be greeting visitors starting at 6:00 pm Thursday, April 19, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Kathleen (Axtman) Westbrook was born on April 25th, 1944, in Harvey, ND, the daughter of August Axtman and Barbara (Leboldus) Axtman. She was raised in Selz and attended school at Selz Public Schools and St. Francis Academy, Hankinson. Kathy continued her studies at St. Alexius School for Radiological Technology, Bismarck, and attended Moorhead State College, Moorhead, MN. Kathy married Lyle Westbrook in Selz, ND on May 22nd, 1965. They resided on a farm outside of Bismarck, near Moffit. Kathy enjoyed traveling, including notable trips to Mexico, Alaska, Edmonton and Innsbruck, Austria, as well as traveling to various locations to see her children and grandchildren. During these travels, she made many stops to find "treasures". Kathy also loved gardening, reading, baking, sewing and fishing. Kathy was employed at St. Alexius Medical Center for approximately 25 years. Kathy loved her job as a Radiological Technician at St. Alexius as well as her co-workers and friends there. Kathy and Lyle enjoyed ending their day together on their farm, sitting out front while drinking a beer and sharing their day. She is survived by: her husband, Lyle, of almost 47 years; four children, Paul (Aida)Westbrook of San Antonio, Texas, Barry (Karla) Westbrook of Denver, Iowa, Amy (David) Floy of Princeton, MN, and Chad (Melissa) Westbrook of Chicago, IL; her dearly loved eight grandchildren, Madison, Samantha, Brittany, and Jordan of San Antonio, Texas; Paige of Denver, Iowa; Austin, Caitlin and Sierra of Princeton, MN; and Asta (the dog) of Chicago, IL; many nephews and nieces; six brothers and sisters, Andrew (Anne) Axtman, Gus (Helen) Axtman, Chuck (Marlene) Axtman, Wayne (Allie) Axtman, Barbara Stredwick, Lillian (special friend Jerry) Keller; sister-in-law Jane (Pete) Brewer; and brother-in-law Albert (Cyn) Westbrook. Proceeding her in death were Kathleen's parents, August and Barbara Axtman; her brothers, Leonard and James Axtman; and her sisters, Christine Thomas and MaryAnne Carrejo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Dakota Community Bank in Lincoln, Attn: Kathy Westbrook Memorial Fund. Proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
