Kathryn Elizabeth Lyon Flora, age 43, of Prairie Village KS passed away November 7, 2011, from complications related to cancer. During her last year of life, she courageously rejected conventional palliative chemotherapy and radiation treatments to participate in a one-of-a-kind FDA approved trial at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City MO. This willingness to risk the unknown gave her several months of precious life and hopefully advanced the search for a cure for cancer.

Kathy was born in Kansas City MO on July 10, 1968, to Paul T. Lyon and Susan Fehlig Lyon. She graduated from Notre Dame de Sion high school ('86), attended the University of Missouri at Columbia as a member of Delta Gamma Sorority for two years and earned her Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Fashion Merchandising from Columbia College. She was a Belle of the American Royal (BOTAR) in the class of 1992. Following graduation, she pursued her lifelong interest in fashion by serving as a manager in several departments of the Nieman Marcus department store in St. Louis MO, before ending her career there as manager of the Couture Designer Apparel Department. After 7 years of courtship, in April, 1995, she married Douglas Boyd Flora who she had met while attending the University of Missouri. Together, they had two children, D. Bryce Flora, age 13, and Reagan Elizabeth Flora, age 12.

Kathy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Louis C. and Betty Stansbury Fehlig of St. Louis MO and her paternal grandparents, Robert W. and Helen Walker Lyon of Carrollton MO. Survivors in her immediate family, in addition to her parents, husband and two children, include her sister, Tracy Lyon Tetrick and husband Charles Tetrick, brother, P. Travis Lyon, Jr., and 3 nieces and nephews, Kathryn Tetrick, Chase Tetrick and Courtenay Tetrick. Other survivors include Douglas' parents, Dennis B. Flora, Judy Flora and Nancy Colville Flora, Douglas' sister and brothers, Amy Flora Holland and husband Eric, Dean Flora and wife Holly Graven Flora and Geoff Rezutko and wife Donna and nieces and nephews, Jacob, Josie and Chase Holland and Sam, Ryan and Ethan Flora.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Unity Temple, 707 West 47th Street, Kansas City, Missouri.

Memorial contributions are requested in lieu of flowers and may be made in Kathryn Flora's honor to CaringBridge, Donation Processing Center, PO Box 6032, Albert Lea MN 56007-6632 or Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City MO 64114 or to the Lance Armstrong Foundation at www.Livestrong.org/tribute . CaringBridge is an organization, which facilitates web based communications between people experiencing health challenges and their circles of friends and loved ones. Kansas City Hospice provides end of life palliative care and other services to patients and their families.
