Our sweet wife, mother, and grandmother, Kathryn Lucille Sorensen, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010, in Salt Lake City after a courageous battle with a long illness. Kathy was born December 23, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Violet Lucille Bowden and Ardith Bowden. She attended school in Salt Lake, and she graduated from South High School in 1966. Kathy earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Utah in 1970. She married her best friend and eternal sweetheart, Leonard Keith Sorensen, on December 4, 1970. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 22, 1976. Together they had three children: Jennifer, Gregg, and Eric. She had a deep love and devotion for her family. Growing up it was always Kathy and her mother, and because of that, they were extremely close. In fact, Violet went on every major summer vacation with Kathy, Lenny, and the kids until the time of her death. Kathy's husband, children, and grandchildren were the center of her life. She prioritized her life so that she could spend her time with those closest to her. She tenderly called her grandchildren her "babies." There was not a day that went by that she was not in contact with her children and grand-children. Kathy was a master teacher and spent her 34 year teaching career at Upland Terrace Elementary in Salt Lake. While teaching, she touched the lives of hundreds of children and made life-long friends. She could be in Disneyland or hiking Delicate Arch and be greeted by students and parents who admired and adored her. Her hobbies and interests were varied and added much to her life. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling. Each summer Kathy and her family packed up the travel trailer and hit the road. By driving and camping they were able to visit the lower 48 states. Kathy also made it to Hawaii several times, and she and Lenny took a cruise to Bermuda. Kathy was an artist. She used her skills to create watercolor paintings and ceramic trivets and mugs. She also enjoyed making crafts that included beautiful floral arrangements and wall décor. She was creative and liked including color in all that she made. Kathy had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She believed in the power of prayer and desired Priesthood blessings throughout her life. She valued her temple ordinances and knew she was part of an eternal family. Kathy is survived by her devoted husband, Leonard Keith Sorensen and her children, Jennifer (David) Baugh, Gregg (Katie) Sorensen, and Eric (Tennille) Sorensen. She is also survived by 10 and 1/2 grandchildren including: Hayley, McKayla, Emily, Isaiah, Wyatt, Sequoyah, Adonyah, Megan, Nakiyah, Boden, and Baby Sorensen. She was preceded in death by her mother, Violet L. Bowden, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth J. Sorensen and Delsa M. Sorensen. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the Glacial Park Ward in Sandy, 2675 E. Mount Jordan Road. Family and friends may visit Wednesday night at the Glacial Park building from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday morning, prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Interment: Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
