KATHY ANN LONG
Kathy Ann Long, 50, of Louisburg, Kansas departed this life on September 25, 2012 at St. Luke's South Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born September 28, 1961 at Kansas City, Missouri to Paul B. Smith and Mary Kenton Smith. Kathy was married on December 30, 1978 to Charles A. Long, Jr. To this union two sons were born, Richard and Justin. Kathy graduated from Raytown South High School in 1979. Some of the many things Kathy enjoyed were working at Goodwill Industries and Maj-R Thrift, volunteering at Wayside Waifs, as Den Mother for Pack 3392 and was a member of Santa Fe Trail Elementary School PTA. She was very talented at home decorating and arts and crafts. She enjoyed fishing and so much more. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul B. Smith, Jr.; maternal grandparents Frances and Mildred Marley; paternal grandparents Charles I Smith and Glenn and Ruth Claunch; an Uncle Charles E. Smith. She is survived by her sons, Richard A. Long, Shawnee, KS, and Justin M. Long, Kansas City, MO; World's Greatest Roomie, Kevin Merriman, Louisburg, KS; parents, Paul B & Donna K. Smith, Raytown, MO and Mary L. Smith, Belton, MO; sisters, Cindy Hicks, Gardner, KS, Paula Martin and husband Jeff, Griswold, IA, and Cheryl LaBelle and husband Paul Bremerton, WA; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Bob and Mary Bazin and Mary Wallace, her dog Polly and cat, Jezzie; and many friends she made. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 4th at 10:00 am at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens under the direction of the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Funeral Home of Kansas City, MO with the Rev. Marilyn Niemeyer officiating. Memorials may be made to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Road, Kansas City, MO 64137, KU Cancer Institute and St. Luke's Hospice.
