Kelso Arden Carter
1921 - 2010

Kelso Arden Carter, beloved husband and father passed away May 26, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by his wife and daughters. Arden was born in Knightsville, Utah to Edward W. and Cecil Goldsbrough Carter. Preceded in death by his mother, father, brother and two sisters. He was raised by his grandparents, Thomas H. and Mary Crawley Carter.

He married the light of his life, Beth Porter on Nov 29, 1946 in Provo, Utah. Arden attended high school in Provo and graduated from Wasatch High School in Heber City. He was a leader in Civilian Conservation Corp 958 in Provo and Huntsville, Utah from 1937 until 1941. He was transferred into Forestry and put in charge of equipment and supplies for Snow Basin ski area under Alf Engen. He proudly joined the United States Marine Corps on Dec. 28, 1941 and was among the first Marines to ship out to Pearl Harbor on February 14, 1942. He served for 4 years and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on Dec 28, 1945. He was extremely proud to have served in Hawaii, North Carolina and San Francisco.

He worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company of Provo and Salt Lake for 33 years and served as Secretary and Treasurer for 25 of those years. He was a member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed trailering, fishing, traveling and was at the height of his glory when cooking for his friends in the “trailer group”.

Arden is survived by his devoted wife Beth, proud daughters Kathryn Carter and Laurie Carter (David) Gleason, two loving grandchildren Marissa (John) Skiby and Kirk Thurgood, three great-grandchildren Morgan Thurgood, Cameron Skiby, Tilly Blanchard, and cousin Thelma C. Patten of Yucca Valley, CA. The family wishes to thank Connie and Keri, Arden’s honorary daughters, for their love and support.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S. Highland Drive. Viewings will be held on Monday, May 31, 2010 from 6-8 pm at the mortuary as well as one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3115 East 7800 South.
