Kenneth Alden Darner, 74, of Cascade and formerly of Woodsboro, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at his home following a battle with cancer. Born Nov. 26, 1936 in Jefferson, he was the son of the late William Alden and Helen Lee Swartz Darner. He was the husband of Frances Marie Zimmerman Darner, his wife of 53 years. Mr. Darner was employed with Avon Tile as a tile setter�s helper and truck driver, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Local Tile Setters Union, as well as St. Paul�s Lutheran Church, Jefferson. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and taking car rides, and was a dedicated husband and father. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and son-in-law, Judy Lee and John Single and Susan Marie Goetz; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Robert and Veronica Darner and Gerald William and Jody Darner; 8 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Ronnie Darner and Thomas Clayton Darner and wife Ruby; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be Thursday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, with Rev. Dorothy Lundgren, pastor of Israels Creek Lutheran Parish, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m. Interment will be in St. Paul�s Lutheran Cemetery, Jefferson.
