Kenneth M. "Kenny" Ewick 78, passed away on Mar. 30, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Kenny was born on January 21, 1935 in Shelbyville, Indiana and was the son of the late Charles Ewick and Grace Junken Ewick. Kenny was a prize-winning salesman at Hoosier Brokerage Company, Weddle & Buntyn Brokerage Company and Zachary Confections, selling candy and snack foods to the wholesale trade. He quickly became a record breaking salesman everywhere he went. He also was a professional musician and played drums in The Stardusters and The Midnighters bands around central Indiana. One of his proudest moments was being asked to sit in with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in New Orleans one evening while there at a convention. He loved fishing, hunting and bird watching. Among his most enjoyable activities was sitting in the swing on the deck in his back yard, along with Shirley and Max trying to identify the many birds, which visited his feeders. After retiring, Kenny became the Crime Watch Coordinator for his neighborhood and led his group of Block Captains to be commended by the Indianapolis Police Department and the State of Indiana General Assembly. He was fondly referred to as "The Mayor of Heatherwood." Surviving Kenny is his wife of 59 years, Shirley White; his sisters, Eva Richardson and Judy Merritt; sister-in-law, Ethel White, all of Shelbyville; his little K-9 friend, Max; several cousins and his son, Dr. David Ewick of Tokyo, Japan. Following Kenny's wishes, cremation will be conducted by Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel . A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday August 9, 2013 in Conkle Funeral Home Speedway Chapel. Online condolences may be shared at: http://www.conklefuneralhome.com. We invite family and friends to visit the site and leave a special memory or story about Kenny.
