       Kenneth Charles Newcomer, 78, Bismarck, died on November 5, 2007, at an Underwood care center.

       Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Nate Keith officiating.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan with military honors provided by VFW Post #1326.

       Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 - 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck.

       Kenneth was born on April 24, 1929, in Driscoll, North Dakota, the son of Charles and Mella (Lien) Newcomer.  He was raised and attended school in Driscoll.  He entered the U.S. Air Force on August 7, 1947, and was discharged on July 17, 1950.  After he returned from the service, he went to work for Richmond Bootery and Shoemart.  

       On June 20, 1954, he married Lydia Eckholm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck.  They made their home in Bismarck.  Kenneth worked for the Department of Human Resources for over twenty years until his retirement.  He and Lydia moved to the Waterford in the fall of 2004.

       Kenneth enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin at Lake Tschida.  He loved inviting friends and family to join them at the lake. Kenneth was a lifetime member of the Bismarck Elks and the VFW.

       He is survived by his wife, Lydia of Bismarck; his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Debra of Ankeny, Iowa; his grandson, Justin (Deirdre) of Parker, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

       He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and three sisters.
