Kenneth Vernal Twede, age 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 9, 2011. Ken was born November 30, 1925 in Payson, Utah to Vernal and Edna Tervort Twede. He graduated from Payson High School in 1944. He served an LDS Mission in Ontario Canada. He graduated in 1950 from USU and married his sweetheart, Ila Mae Thomas, on May 29, 1950 in the Manti Temple. They served missions together in Nova Scotia and Little Rock, Arkansas. She passed away Aug 24, 2008.

Ken taught school for thirty-one years in various elementary schools in Payson. He was an active member of the LDS church serving in many positions. His dutiful and committed attitude stayed with him until the end.

In his youth, Ken played football and he loved to ski. Ken enjoyed being in nature and experiencing the beauty of the earth. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially spending time in the mountains.

Ken leaves a legacy of love and humility with all that knew him. He is survived by six of his children, Alan (Mary) Twede, LeAnn (Brian) Campbell, Carolyn (Greg) Frank, Steve (Gretchen) Twede, Renae (Dave) Ellsworth, and Glen (Lara) Twede. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Fred and Lamar Twede; his wife, Ila Mae; son, Dean; and granddaughter, Stephanie Ellsworth.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 14, 2011, 11:00 a.m., in the Payson, Utah Park Ward Chapel, 110 South 300 West. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Thursday, 6-8:00 p.m. or at the church Friday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Payson City Cemetery.
