Kim Rickford Blankenship, 62, of Dunbar, left this earth July 2, 2012.
He was born on July 31, 1949 in Sandy Bottom, WV to Silas Cleveland, Jr. and Anna Lucille Houck. He graduated Man High School in 1967. He attended Marshall University, Logan Branch.
Rick enlisted in the United States Navy Sept 19, 1968- May 21, 1974. He served on the USS Hornet Apollo Lunar Spacecraft Recovery July 15th 1969. He received many awards as part of his service in the US Navy.
After returning from the Navy he spent most of his years in West Virginia working as a Surface Mining Supervisor in the coal industry. He was lovingly known to his co-workers as Boss Rick.
Rick leaves behind his wife Karen Copeland Blankenship; sons Kim R. "Ricky" (Christy) Blankenship II, Dylan Lavell Risenhoover and his fiancée (Ciara Gardiner) and Justin James (Becca) Risenhoover; 3 grandchildren, Conner Marshall, Ethan James, and Bella Marie; He also leaves his first wife Rebecca and husband Allan Dantes; his mother-in Law Ethel Copeland; sister-in-law Deborah Copeland; nephews, Nick, Wayne and Jeremiah Holder;
brother, Wendell Scott (Mary Jane) Blankenship of Lansing, Michigan; nephew, Scott (Melissa) Blankenship and their children, McKenzie and Tyler; niece, Stephanie (Paul) Dean, and their children, Taylor, Mason, and Braydon of Swanson, Michigan; sister, Mary Beth Bassett and her son Kyle of Florida; sister, Connie Ester (Bethel) Toler and their daughter McKenna of Coshocton; sister, Stacy Dawn (Paul) Beachy and their children Joshua and Matthew of Sugarcreek; Aunt Evelyn (Bill) Wheeler, Kathleen Bailey and Elizabeth Selby all of Ashland Kentucky; Henry Coburn Houck of Cedar Rapids Iowa; Aunts, Ardith Barner and Dorothy Steadman of Michigan; Johnny Blankenship of Louisville, Kentucky; as well as a host of other relatives.
He was the kindest strongest man and a true inspiration to all who knew him. He will always be our heart and I am privileged to have had this time with you.
Family and friends may visit from 10 AM until 1 PM on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston to celebrate the life of Rick.
