Konrad Delong, 90, North Port, FL, and formerly Venice, FL, died on February 13, 2011. Born in Mt. Vernon, New York, he moved to Florida from Yorktown Heights, NY in 1976. Konrad worked for Sinclair Refining Company until retiring in 1972. He worked in various country clubs around the US while transferring around the country with his wife Barbara for her career. While retired in Venice, they both worked for AC Nielsen for over 12 years.
Konrad was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of Amvets #312 and DAV #101. He volunteered at the North Port Library, Sarasota County Poll Workers, North Port Performing Arts, Venice Hospital, and the American Cancer Society. Konrad was a member of Heron Creek Golf and Country Club, the Elks, and Venice and Charlotte Harbor Yacht Clubs.
Konrad will be remembered for his passion for cooking, affinity toward bowling and golf, fondness of swing and big band music, and extensive international travel; but mostly for his unparalleled hospitality, kindness, generosity, compassion, and love as a family man.
Family members include Barbara, his loving wife of 60 years; two devoted daughters, Suellen Delong, Ft. Lauderdale, Melanie (Sameh) Ghobrial, Saratoga Springs, NY; an apple of his eye son, Konrad (Angela) Delong, Jr. Houston, TX; 4 grandchildren who smothered him with love, Kareem Ghobrial, Rochelle Delong, Nicole Ghobrial, and Austin Delong, niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Wynn, brother William Delong.
