A graveside service will be held later this week in Des Moines. Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville is in charge of local arrangements.

LeRoy E. Marshall, the son of Carl and Alice (Petersen) Marshall, was born October 5, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa. He died Friday, March 16, 2007, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 85 years.

Lee was raised in the Des Moines area and graduated from East High School in Des Moines. Later he was a 1952 graduate of the Palmer School of Chiropractic. He also attended college in Chicago, Illinois, and was a graduate in physical therapy. He served in the United States Army in the European Theater during World War II.

In 1948, Lee was united in marriage to Delores Gelhaus in Des Moines. The couple had made their home in Estherville for many years. Dr. Marshall was a prolific writer and his editorials appeared in many publications throughout the years. He had also been very politically active and was also involved in environmental groups and humane type animal groups. He had been awarded many citations from groups over the years of his involvement.

Dr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Delores of Estherville; one daughter, Brenda Lee Spray and her husband, Jim of Huntington Beach, California; one granddaughter, Holly Lee of Newport Beach, California; one sister, Frances Oberendes of Des Moines; and other relatives.

Preceding Lee in death were an infant daughter, Pamela; his parents; and one brother, Bobby.
